Human Rights and the Regulation of AI

Professor Philippa Webb and Harriet Moynihan have made a submission to the UK’s Joint Commission on Human Rights Inquiry on Human Rights and the Regulation of AI.

Their submission flags the Institute's AI Justice Atlas which covers how 15 jurisdictions, including England and Wales, are using AI in their criminal justice systems. They also consider how the UK has shown support for rights-based approaches through the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on AI and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law.

They also highlighted the way in which tools such as the Council of Europe’s HUDEIRA methodology can provide practical guidance for UK policymakers to ensure that activities within the AI lifecycle are consistent with human rights.
