About Us
The Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice is a partnership between the University of Oxford's Blavatnik School of Government and the Clooney Foundation for Justice, to harness the power of AI for justice.
Our work rests on three pillars
Access to Justice
We believe in the power of AI to increase access to justice. Through partnerships with technologists, we are developing digital agents that bring legal support and resources to those who need it the most. Our pilot projects connect disadvantaged women and girls as well as journalists-at-risk to legal information in conversational format, around the clock, and to vetted pro bono lawyers who can who help them defend their rights.
Accountability
We believe that more can be done to promote accountability for victims of State-sponsored cyber attacks and of cybercrime. As the cyber threat landscape increases in scale, speed and sophistication, we are exploring legal routes to accountability and strengthening cooperation between stakeholders to drive practical solutions. We are also exploring the role of digital evidence and how such evidence can be preserved, presented and managed in courts and other accountability processes.
Advancement
We are building on our scholarship on The Right to a Fair Trial in International Law to explore how to advance justice and protect fundamental rights in AI-assisted court proceedings. We are tracking the use and regulation of AI in courtrooms around the world through the AI Justice Atlas and developing and disseminating international standards to meet the challenges of the digital age.

The Institute is honoured to have received inaugural multi-year funding from Microsoft to launch its work.
The Institute is established in Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government, which drives forward world-class evidence-based research and trains public leaders to inspire better government around the world.
