Our Co-Founder and Director, Professor Philippa Webb, spoke at the webinar “AI and the Bar: The Right to a Fair Trial in the Age of AI – Current Challenges and Next Steps,” chaired by Professor Yvonne McDermott Rees.
Professor Webb reflected on how artificial intelligence is transforming the administration of justice, from judges and counsel using AI tools in their daily work to the growing need for clear guardrails that safeguard due process and fairness in the digital age.
During her remarks, she highlighted the work of the Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice, including the AI Justice Atlas — a global resource mapping the use of AI in criminal proceedings worldwide to promote transparency, accountability, and informed public debate.
The discussion offered a timely examination of how technology can enhance access to justice and institutional transparency, while reaffirming the central role of human judgment in legal decision-making.
